Salt Cellar, Avon, Diamond Pattern Glass, Vintage Fostoria

• Details:  This is a very nice and useful collectible from Avon, and made by none other than Fostoria!  It is a pressed glass with a beautiful stippled diamond pattern all around the bowl and embossed dots along the rim.  It is footed, if you look very closely, the foot ends are claw foot shaped, a very tiny and wonderful detail.  Avon sold these salt cellars with candles in different scents.  The name "AVON" is embossed on the bottom.  We were not able to determine exactly when Avon issued these salt cellars but we know that Fostoria made glass pieces for Avon between 1961 and 1985 so we've dated it within those years.  If you are an Avon collector, or a Fostoria collector, this will be a very nice addition to your collection.

For more than 80 years, Avon has been selling health and beauty products, personal care, jewelry, perfumes, clothing, and many other items.  Avon Products began in 1886 as the California Perfume Company.  In the mid 1960s, Avon began producing novelty containers for perfumes.   Avon collaborated with many companies over the years who supplied Avon with the beautiful  containers to house their large, and ever changing variety, of perfumes, soaps and candles.  Some of the best known suppliers were:  Tiffany & Company, Wheaton Glass Company, Seth Thomas, Oneida Silver, Mikasa China, and the Fostoria Glass Company of Moundsville, West Virginia.  Collectors loved the new products, and Avon began creating more collectibles to draw in their customers. These beautiful decanters and other glassware have become a favorite of collectors.  There are still many collectors and others, who value the nostalgia these pieces have and the beauty they bring to their homes.  We read recently that Avon will be doing away with their collectibles, or at the very least reducing the number of collectibles that will be entering the market.  Soon the secondary market will be the only way to find these nostalgic pieces.
